Christian Football Federation Australia - Annual International Tournament
The Australian National Titles are the major representative State program which marks the pinnacle of youth football development in Australia. States runs trials and select squads training them in monthly camps for up to 6 months leading into the tournament. States currently involved are NSW, Qld, Victoria, WA with regionally based teams coming from major population centres such as Sydney and Newcastle. NZ was invited to be involved in 2007 in the senior men's competition soon proving their worth by winning 3 years straight. under Kim Beale's coaching.
The Titles are contested in grades U14, U16, U18, Senior Ladies and Senior Men although this year NZ fielded teams in the ladies and U18's categories only.
2012 we will be fielding teams in all youth divisions as well as Ladies and Mens with trials for those teams commencing in March 2012.
The age criteria for each youth grade is that the player needs to be 14 at some point through the year of the tournament to be eligible to play U14's. This means that effectively U14 teams can field 15 yo's and so on up the grades. We didn't know this in 2011 and fielded a team with an average age of 15 who competed in the U18's. Ladies and Mens teams are open.
Both NZ teams only had 1 day's preparations as a full unit prior to travelling punching well above their weight in all games. The proof of how good our players were is that 3 of the 12 man All Australian squad were NZ'ers.
With the success of this year, a full representative program will be run during 2012 with a view to the next competition which will be held in Brisbane between the 23rd September to the 4th October.
